Life Is A Dream

This year Brave New Works aims to showcase an audacious look at a renaissance classic with Scapegoat Carnivale’s new project, Life Is A Dream - an adaptation of Spanish 17th Century Pedro Calderon de la Barca’s surprisingly postmodern comedy about the conflict between fate and free will. As hilarious as it is profound, this tale of Polish succession follows a prince, imprisoned by his father and finally allowed to return as the heir. When his actions turn brutal he is returned to his cave prison and convinced that his day of royalty was nothing but a dream. Crossed loves, rebels and loyal servants languishing in doubt fill out the landscape that surrounds the young prince and his distraught king father.

Scapegoat Carnivale is an emerging company dedicated to producing new works based on provocative dramaturgical concepts and approaches that can steer theatre in unexpected directions. The company includes artists, Andreas Apergis, Alison Darcy, David Oppenheim, Joseph Shragge and Melanie St-Jacques.
